Cave City’s Cars & Coffee

While we know this event is a couple days before our official Duncan Hines Days week, we’re inviting anyone coming to town early to stop by and see our friends in Cave City for this amazing free car show with local vendors and entertainment. This event symbolizes the good old fashioned American road trip that Duncan Hines’ heritage and legacy represents. The Cave City Cars & Coffee event is held the first Saturday of the month from April to October in the historic Ace District of Downtown Cave City. This June weekend celebrates June Bugs and VW’s. 

Duncan Hines: A Food Odyssey

Businessman, salesman, kitchen inspector, lover of comfortable lodgings, and connoisseur of good food - - this was the man Duncan Hines. This presentation explores the life and work of Duncan Hines from his days growing up in Warren County, Kentucky, through his career as a travel writer, and finally to his rise as a brand name in the world of packaged goods. Jonathan Jeffrey will present the research behind the Kentucky Museum’s exhibition as well as special artifacts held by the Museum and WKU Special Collections Library. Talk will be presented from 2pm to 2:45pm Museum will be open from 1pm to 4pm to view the Recommended by Duncan Hines and other exhibitions.

All are welcome to join us on Monday, June 5, at 3:30pm, to officially declare June 5-11, 2023 as Duncan Hines Days. What a great way to kickoff our community's weeklong celebration! The National Corvette Museum and Stingray Grill are examples of a roadside attraction and one of a kind restaurant that Duncan Hines himself would surely have recommended in his travel and vacation planning guidebooks. The first true road tripper and food critic was a Bowling Green native, who grew his name into the most trusted and beloved household food and entertainment brand. The Stingray Grill is offering specials worthy of a recommendation by the man behind the mix himself!

Feast Your Eyes: the Art of Food exhibit Grand Opening

The Downing Museum submissions for Feast YOUR Eyes: The Art of Food, open to the public June 6 – July 22, 2023. This exhibition will be held in conjunction with the Duncan Hines Days Festival in Bowling Green, KY (June 5-11). All works of art that meet the guidelines below will be considered.   Important Dates: Electronic submissions due: May 26, 2023 Artists notified of selections: May 28 Drop off: June 1-3 Exhibition: June 6 – July 22, 2023 Pick up: July 25-29 Image Submission Guidelines: Images should be catalog-ready and high-resolution (at least 5inches wide (1500px), and at least 300dpi). Images of 2D work should be cropped as close to the edge of the image as possible. Images of 3D work should be taken with a white or neutral background, if possible. WCPL Farm Fest Summer Reading Kickoff

We are Growing Readers at the Warren County Public Library. Join us for Farm Fest at the National Corvette Museum. Register for Summer Reading, participate in the free petting zoo, receive free flower seeds for the first 1,000 people, purchase yummy food from food trucks (Pie Queen, Chaney’s Dairy Barn, and Crave), and participate in activities with our many community partners and friends including the Mobile Dairy Classroom, Little Learners Bus, BGISD Purple Food Bus, Bike Rodeo from BikeWalk BG, and so much more!

Uncle Duncan’s Walk ‘n Wheels Parade

Join us on your wheels or two feet for a parade circling Downtown BGKY on Thursday, June 8 at 5pm. We’ll start at Circus Square Park, circle around Fountain Square Park, and end at the Community Ice Cream Social at SoKY Marketplace presented by Houchens Food Group. Any non-motorized float or entry is welcome to participate. Decorate your bike, wheels, self, or float in a Duncan Hines theme (think travel, food, leisure, adventure). This parade is open to all ages and we highly encourage creativity. No entry fee, but we kindly ask you to pre-register here. More details to come. This event is hosted by the Warren County and City of Bowling Green Parks & Rec teams, plus BikeWalkBG. Lineup starts at Circus Square Park @ 4:25 pm SIGN UP HERE! After the Vintage Car Cruise-in on Fountain Square at 4pm, and after Uncle Duncan’s Walk ‘n Wheels Parade thru Downtown BGKY that starts at 5pm, join us for a good old-fashioned community get together at SoKY Marketplace’s outdoor pavilion at 6pm. Sponsored by Houchens Food Group, we’ll have a great night of friends, food, and entertainment. We’ll have free ice cream for the first 1,000 people courtesy of Houchens Food Group. The Mini Dolly Pageant begins at 6pm, hosted by Owensboro native Natasha Neeley as Dolly Parton and featuring local celebrity judges. This pageant is open to kids ages 8 and under. SoKY Marketplace will be putting out registration details for The Mini Dolly Pageant soon.  After the pageant, enjoy free live music from Bueller’s Day Off and a sock hop dance floor and free activities for kids and families hosted by community members and nonprofit organizations.
