When America’s sweetheart Dolly Parton announced a new southern-inspired baking line of recipes with the Duncan Hines brand last year, she absolutely HAD to buy all the mixes and give them a try. Last year, we joked about how cool it would be to have a road trip from Bowling Green, home of our dear man behind the mix and the original road tripper influencer, to Sevierville, Dolly’s beloved Smoky Mountains home. The Wealth of Geeks site wrote about exactly that, just a month ago, during what would have been real-life Duncan’s birthday week—read it here!
Here’s Brie the Pie Queen’s recipe for the Duncan & Dolly Banana Cake Trifle.
Ingredients:
-1 Duncan & Dolly Banana cake mix + its ingredients on the box
-1 Instant vanilla pudding boxed mix + its ingredients on the box
-Fresh bananas
-Fresh strawberries
-Cool whip – 1 small container
Instructions:
- Bake the Duncan & Dolly Banana cake according to the instructions on the cake mix box. After baking, let cool, then cut the cake into small cubes.
- Make the instant vanilla pudding as instructed on its box and cool, then fold in the cool whip.
- Slice the fresh strawberries and bananas.
- Layer the pudding with whip, cake, and fresh fruit in the trifle bowl. The first layer should be pudding, then the cake cubes, and sliced fruit. You should be able to fit a couple of these layers into a typical trifle bowl.
- Top the trifle with the banana cake’s crumbles and the strawberries.
- Enjoy at your Duncan Hines Days event with family and friends.
